Just a quick question, once I install new expansions, provided this works and I can install expansions next, would replace the Sims icon on the desktop with the newest EP exe or do you just keep clicking the base game desktop icon to play? Oh, gosh! I'm excited to try it!įirst of all, I recommend you to install just the base game and try it. Please if you try these steps let me know the results Since The Sims 1 is an old game, it shouldn't require a lot of RAM to function. You don't have to do anything else to the exe file, that's required just when you install the base game, and then it stays that way. If you can play the Sims, install all expansions in the rute I named, and that would be all. If not, maybe you have to select another option in compatibility mode, though that's the only one that worked for me. Click on accept, and that's it.ģ) Try the game without installing any expansions to see if it worked. You have to send it to your desktop, and go to its properties:Ģa) Then, click on Run this program in compatibility mode for Windows XP (Service Pack 3).Ģb) After that, also in properties click on Run this program as administrator. (So don't install it in the default rute: C:\ProgramFiles\Maxis, that's the important thing).Ģ) Go to that directory, and inside the folder called The Sims you will see an exe file called Sims. Once you do this, you'll have the following directory C:\Maxis\The Sims. It's slow as plum, but I started wondering, would I be able to play the original Sims on it? I still have all my discs but after spending 3 and a half hours today fighting to get my wifi back on my laptop, and another hour downloading office 365 to all my devices, I'm just not sure I'm ready to undertake something that is going to be a big headache right this moment and if it's not even possible, why even start the process. I was debating what to do with it, but it's really just as old and wore down as you can get (Vista OS and only 2GB RAM). I bought my daughter a new laptop for school work and I now have her old laptop just sitting here taking up space.
